Luke Elliot - "Boom Boom Mancini" (Limited Edition colored vinyl)
When Luke Elliot came to Norway in 2014 and started playing with The Salmon Smokers, Warren Zevon 's 1987 song "Boom Boom Mancini" was the end of the concerts.
Often in versions that could go as many rounds as the boxing match that Warren Zevon sang about, fourteen.
Now Luke Elliot has been in the studio with producer / multi-instrumentalist Freddy Holm and recorded two versions of "Boom Boom Mancini", a rock version and dream version, with the French singer Keren Ann.
Both can be found on the first release on the special label "Friends of New Noise Halden". A sublabel of New Noise.
The single comes in two colors, Nosebleed Red and Knockout Gray, and is adorned with a painting by Luke's fellow American singer / songwriter, Tom Russell , specially painted for the occasion.
Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini (60) is a former WBA lightweight champion who was inducted into the "Boxing Hall of Fame" in 2015.
In 1982, Mancini boxed in a televised fight from Caesars Palace in Las Vegas against the South Korean boxer Duk Koo Kim. Manicini won by technical knockout in the 14th round. After the match, Duk Koo Kim fell into a coma and died four days later.
Zevon's text settles with the outcome of the match for Mancini's part.
Mancini and Elliot have been contacted after the release of the streaming version of the song and have done joint interviews.
Luke Elliot released two albums, "The Big Wind" and "Live in Oslo" in 2020.
